A Scent of Heaven: Aromatherapy Oil Diffusers

Almost all aromatherapy diffusers use oil as a means of holding the scent to be disseminated into the air. These aromatherapy oil diffusers can be found in a variety of different shapes, colors and styles that can more readily fit into the décor of a home or office space.  There are some diffusers that are shaped to mimic knick knacks so that they do not look out of place or cheap sitting on a shelf or on a coffee table.  There are others that will attach to a lamp so that it is out of sight completely, hidden beneath the shade but still emitting the scent into the room to keep it smelling fresh and clean.

Types

One common type of aromatherapy oil diffuser is the candle.  Scented candles have the oils mixed into the wax of the candle so that when it is burned, it emits the scent into the air.  One problem with using candles is that the scent usually does not last long after the candle is burned, so the candle has to be kept burning at all times to keep the room fresh.  This can be an issue since it is not safe to burn a candle unattended, nor is it healthy for the lungs since it also emits smoke into the air.

Another type of aromatherapy oil diffuser is the one mentioned in the opening paragraph – the lamp ring.  These rings are completely hidden by the shade of the lamp because the ring is placed on the light bulb.  The heat of the bulb will heat the aromatherapy oils so they are diffused into the room, making it smell fresh at all times.  Since lamps are used during a good portion of the day and night, the home is always kept fresh smelling without having to use the constant energy of the electrical diffusers.

Popular Oil Diffuser

Electrical or fan aromatherapy oil diffusers are probably the most popular since they are easy to use and the refills are fairly inexpensive.  These diffusers are plugged into the wall socket or they run on batteries.  A small fan in the unit will blow air across the top of the pad that is soaked in the oil so that the smell is dispersed throughout the room.  The problem with these units is that the oil evaporates very quickly from them so the refill has to be bought about every other week to keep the home or office fresh.  Also, they are constantly running, so they are using electricity at all times, whether it is from a battery that has to be replaced or from the home or office.
